This company is based in Manhattan and they operate on a hybrid schedule(in-office Tuesday-Thursday/remote Monday & Friday)

Annual Base Salary Range: $113,000-$150,000


This company is looking for a dynamic, energetic, and proactive Senior Media Relations Specialist to join their traditional public relations team. This position provides the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, creative environment with a collaborative team.

A successful Senior Media Relations Specialist at this company will play a lead media strategy and execution role on their accounts, and are expected to not only demonstrate superior media relations skills, but also have the ability to manage multiple projects and people. This person should be first to volunteer for any task at hand and run with it, and show bravery in trying new tasks and learning new technology. They should be a self-starter with strong research, project management, and organization skills. They expect that team members at this level have an inner sense of “restless discontent,” i.e. they are constantly looking to elevate their client work and their personal skill set. We also expect all team members to demonstrate a strong problem-solving skillset, as this company is a fast-paced, start-up environment.

Passion and enthusiasm for the work, as well as team collaboration and respect, are required.

  • 7+ years of relevant agency PR experience
  • 2-3+ years of management experience
  • Strong writing, copy-editing, and presentation skills
  • Highly organized, responsive, and punctual
  • Ability to synthesize a wide variety of information, then set both high level and detailed strategy accordingly
  • Be able to anticipate client needs and plan for them
  • Be someone who never feels like they know enough media and is actively keeping their contact base fresh and evolving
  • Works quickly under pressure; handling and prioritizing multiple assignments with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience in beauty and/or healthcare preferred
  • Demonstrates the ability to effectively manage client accounts, including managing junior staff, handling crisis, and sticking to budgets
  • Develop existing and grow new media relationships across healthcare, lifestyle and beauty, in trade and consumer, across all channels
  • Show a particular passion and excellence with short media – broadcast and online
  • Be committed to developing other media relations superstars within the staff, and helping them to grow their skills and contacts
  • Position brands strategically with media, to ensure key brand and differentiation points have the best opportunity of being covered
  • Understand that success is not the quantity of placements, but the quality of them – media that really drives business results
  • Have creative thinking within a heavily regulated client space and understand what you can/cannot say when speaking to media
  • Drive strategy and execute promptly, ensuring no email or question goes by unread
  • Develop forward-facing six- or twelve-month media relations plans and execute overarching brand initiatives and promotional campaigns with an emphasis on proposal development, execution timeline, and budget management, with vendor coordination as necessary
  • Be the lead client contact across major clients for media strategy and large-scale media initiatives questions
  • Run client calls that demand on-the-spot recommendations and proactive thinking (i.e. above and beyond reading off the agenda); demonstrate the ability to anticipate client needs and proactively answer questions that the client hasn’t yet asked
  • Be point person for key accounts on all media relations activities – review invite lists, pitching lists, etc. to ensure they are accurate and correct
  • Ensure all client initiatives are completed in a timely manner, and ultimately deliver business results
  • When needed, organize, and run in-person client meetings with poise, presence, and strategic thinking
  • Develop KPI measurement strategy and deliver on it
  • Assist in the development of new business proposals and participate in meetings
  • Manage team effectiveness and project hours, optimizing for billability and profitability
  • Manage and mentor AE/SAEs to further their professional and personal growth
  • Keep the team up to date on changes in the media landscape (new outlets, different internal set ups, etc.)
  • Execute quarterly reviews for direct report(s)
  • Be able to “manage up” and effectively communicate issues/successes to senior staff with a sense of ownership and urgency; continually identify areas for team improvement
